About the Sacraments
In the life of the church, we celebrate two sacraments–Holy Communion and Baptism–as instituted by Jesus. We celebrate Holy Communion in our worship services on the first Sunday of the month. Because of God’s faithfulness to the covenant of grace in baptism, we baptize only once in the life of a follower of Christ. Baptisms are scheduled through the church office, 972-562-8556.
26 While they were eating, Jesus took a loaf of bread, and after blessing it he broke it, gave it to the disciples, and said, “Take, eat; this is my body.” 27 Then he took a cup, and after giving thanks he gave it to them, saying, “Drink from it, all of you; 28 for this is my blood of the covenant, which is poured out for many for the forgiveness of sins. (Matt 26:26-29)
Note: To prepare for the Lord’s Supper during livestream worship, please have a small cup of juice and a piece of bread or cracker ready before worship.
We celebrate the sacrament of Holy Communion monthly, sharing the Lord’s Supper, to commune with the presence of Christ represented by the elements of bread and grape juice. Coming to the table of grace, the Lord’s table, is a time of community with members of the Body of Christ across space and time, where through the power of the Holy Spirit we are nourished and give thanks for all the Christ has done for us. We live in hope for the feast to come in the fullness of the Kingdom of God. Christ our Lord invites to his table all who love him, who earnestly repent of their sin, and seek to live in peace with one another. You may find more information about Holy Communion here.
19 Go therefore and make disciples of all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit, 20 and teaching them to obey everything that I have commanded you. And remember, I am with you always, to the end of the age.” (Matt 28:19-20)
Baptism is a covenant offered by God to all people as a sacramental means of God’s grace. The grace of God is embodied in Jesus Christ and offered freely to all people as an outward and visible sign of an inward and spiritual grace. Baptism is our entrance to the family of faith, the Body of Christ, the church. We baptize infants and persons of all ages. It is an act of the Holy Spirit where we come together and respond to the grace that is already at work within us. Confirmation
Confirmation is a time of preparation for a young person to learn about faith in Jesus and what it means to be a member of the church. Our Youth Ministries offer confirmation studies and activities during the school year. At the end of the confirmation series, the student has an opportunity to decide if they are ready to become full members of the church. This is a special time when young people respond to the vows to follow Jesus and support the ministries of the church! For more information about confirmation, you may contact Deidre Imthurn at dimthurn@sharingtheheart.org.
