Each year the United Women in Faith at First United Methodist Church, McKinney offers a scholarship to a student from our church that is entering college as a freshman. The funds for this scholarship come from UWF activities held each year that raise money for mission work. The scholarship money will be sent directly to your college or university for the fall semester.
 
Criteria for this scholarship include:
  • Service to the church (examples are: helping with Vacation Bible School, helping with children’s Sunday school, going on mission trips or youth camps, participating in church wide missions or services, etc.)
  • Financial need – must write a page about your needs, send to Raebeth Costolo, rmcostolo@gmail.com.
  • Application form
  • Student essay (see directions below)
  • Letters of Recommendation
 
Essay Directions:
  1. Write a short essay of no more that 300 words on the topic below. Your paper should be typed and double-spaced. Note: we stop reading at 300 words, so economize your thoughts.
  2. Essay Topic: “Discuss the impact your involvement with this church has had on your life and your future goals.” Please use one or two specific examples of your participation and/or activities to support the topic.
  3. Be sure to proof-read your paper. It will help us in awarding scholarships.
  4. Email essay to UWF Scholarship Chairperson, Raebeth Costolo, rmcostolo@gmail.com.
 
Letters of Recommendation:
The student must secure two (2) Letters of Recommendation.  These are to be emailed directly to UWF Scholarship Chairperson, Raebeth Costolo, rmcostolo@gmail.com, either by the reference or the student.
Reference #1: Must be an active adult member of First United Methodist Church of McKinney
Reference #2: Any other adult (not parents or family members)
**Make sure to get references permission before listing them on your application. it is the students responsibility to make sure letters of recommendation are submitted by due date.
 
In order to be considered, applications and essays much be received before NOON on Sunday, April 7, 2024.
