Veneer: Living Deeply in a Surface Society

The world has a love affair – with itself. Too often we’re focused on our success, our desires, our image. We become consumers who want to impress others with our stuff, and we use Facebook, Instagram, TikTok, and the like to convince our family, friends, and strangers that this façade is who we are. Our lives are like a veneer; we look good and solid on the surface, but on the inside, we are broken, confused, and not doing as well as we would like.

The sermon series Veneer will challenge us to move beyond the surface-level lives offered by contemporary culture. Taking on the cultural narcissism in which everyone is in love with the self and learn how to move into a richer sense of our identity as loved children of God. The series is an invitation to lead an unveneered life of freedom, honesty, and beauty. To live a deeply authentic self of wholeness and holiness.
